No Mikael, I've never done such a research regarding Articles. For me this all is very new and I am surprised at my own self for so long I was unaware of this field despite having a very good experience on Internet. Article Marketing for traffic is going to help out a lot and there are freelance writers as well who can do the job for you but it's important to get yourself familiar with it too so you can tell the writer what type of content you need.

Exactly. That is how I do it but I am sure you can find someone that will teach you otherwise. ;)

I see, so the main reason you submit articles is for the back links to your site, the traffic from the articles is a secondary benefit. I guess I had it backwards :)

In that case then, mass submissions (compared to submitting to only one or two article sites) does make more sense in the long term. You may not get as much traffic from the articles themselves (since they won't rank as high) but having so many back links will help your own site rank and eventually get more direct traffic from the SE's.

I agree that if you want to build traffic through an article then you will naturally want it to rank highly. However I don't see the point of having visitors filter through an article directory instead of just coming strait to your site. That will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your potential amount of visitors to your site (I'm talking 70%-95% reduction).

However if that is what you want to do then "yes" everything you said is true. If you want that one article to rank highly then you should only submit that unique article to ONE directory.

Just to clarify things, then I am suggesting to submit your articles to as many directories as possible in terms of getting as much inbound links to my site as possible, because I am normally working on getting MY site to rank instead of the articles submitted.

Thanks Mikael. Very true, they are just web pages so the same SEO principals should apply to them as to any other page. On that note, you've got me thinking; I believe then the following factors should affect the SERPs for an article placed on an article site (please feel free to disagree!) ;)
- PR of article site
- Content uniqueness (the fewer article sites you submit it to, the better your article tends to rank when compared to mass submissions)
- On-site optimization (keyword density, title optimization, LSI, etc.)
- Off-site optimization (i.e. Incoming links and relevant outgoing links)

I completely agree with you on putting more focus on getting your own web pages to rank but if the main purpose of article submissions is to generate traffic, I'm thinking it's only advantageous to do everything possible (within reason) to help them rank well and stay ranked even if it takes a bit more time to optimize them. That way you don't have to keep churning them out to replace the ones that no longer rank well. Your thoughts? :)

Hi Geoff,

I would say that linking to them is the best way to keep them ranking. After all they are just "web pages" like every other page.

One thing I would add though is that I would probably rather try to rank my website instead of putting too much energy into ranking articles placed on a website that someone else owns.

Hi Mikeal. One of the challenges I've often faced in the past is keeping my articles on the first page of google. If you take EA for example, you'll often find dozens if not hundreds of articles with the very same title keywords you are targeting and yet only one of the articles is within the first page of google, the others have somehow fallen off the first page or even the index entirely. Is there a way to prevent this from happening to your own articles? I see you mentioned linking to them to give them some link juice. Is there anything else you can do or is this one of the mysteries of google as to why certain articles rank higher and for much longer than others? :)

Okay. How many articles have you submitted? Some things tend to have a little learning curve.

When I say I haven't been successful, I mean that one guest post at a reasonably big blogger fetches far more referrals than 10 entries on ezine.
