Focusing On What Is Important

By Mikael | 5,947 views

If you are still hanging on as a reader of this blog, I would like to start by apologizing that I haven’t updated it frequently and that almost 4 months have passed since the last post. However, I do think that it can be turned into a lesson that I find most people are struggling with and that I myself have had a hard time with in the beginning of my online business career.

I have talked about the topic of FOCUS before but I find that it is important to remind ourselves about it from time to time. If we haven’t got a clear and precise goal that we can keep our focus at, we will often drift from one thing to the next and get very little productive work done. I don’t know if you have ever tried it but I have personally done it so many times that I stopped counting.

Ever since I started a challenge based on a webinar I heard on the Keyword Academy where I am a member, I have had no problem keeping my focus and been able to work consistently and effectively to achieve the goal I sat out to reach. The plan was a one year plan but because of my focus and the fact that things gets easier when you are doing them consistently, I have almost reached my goal already.

Reaching that goal as doubled my online income and from the looks of it, I am going to double it once more before the year has passed. That means that listening to a webinar, keeping my focus and taking massive action will most likely result in a 4x increase of the monthly earnings.

What Have You Done Lately?

So now you know why I haven’t taken the time to post on this blog and what I have spent my time on instead. Even though I enjoy writing these posts I am not making any money from it and when time is limited it will therefore be kept at a minimum and when I feel that I have something valuable to share.

But what about yourself? Have you taken the time to look back at the first 4 or 5 months of this year and made up how far you have come towards your goals? Because you do have goals, right?

If not, now is the time to set some goals and start working on them. It doesn’t have to be money goals. You can set goals about all kinds of stuff. Health goals, travel goals, family goals etc. But without them you can’t focus and without focus you will always tend to drift.

Don’t drift through life. It is simply too short to not make the most of it. Focus on what you find is important and start taking action towards it TODAY.

To Your Success,

Mikael

If it’s any consolation, I went through a similar process – there was a month and a half where I didn’t update my blog and started every post with “I’m sorry I haven’t been here..”.

I’m very curious about the webinar you mention. While I have a good idea what’s it going to be about, it’s not the same as knowing. Let alone multiplying your income by a factor of 4 – that’s pretty impressive!

Hi Udi,

I know it is kinda sad when you feel like you have to apologize because you’re not updating your blog as frequently as you wanted to but I guess that is just something we’ll have to learn to deal with if we’re in that situation.

Anyway, the webinar I mention was actually about setting goals but part of it talked about the fact, that in order to increase your revenue you had to get more content out onto the Internet.

It wasn’t the first time I heard it but it was the first time it really clicked with me. So instead of having my focus all over the place, I have now narrowed it down to the content creation part.

Hi Mikael,

I know what you mean. The truth is, most people – even devout followers of a blog – accept it if you’re not there so you’re really apologizing to yourself. However, they will move on.

Last month I started updating my blog almost every other day and I get significantly more repeat visitors… I guess because they know it’s likely something new will be there.

I heard several suggestions about more content: basically one said that the more sites you get out there, the higher the chances some will work (it’s a numbers game).

People keep telling me I need to focus too ;) And they are right. Focus is essential.

My problem has always been to keep focus and secondly to keep the focus on the things that really matter. I think I am starting to see why that is important and luckily it translates into a substantial increase in revenue.

Great insights and great blog. I have a blog that made around $14,000 last month and the reason it did that was because I spent a lot of time on content creation (or at least, I paid people to spend time on it).

Hi Tom,

$14K? That sounds nice. Was it net or before you paid the writers? What kind of monetization methods did you use to create that income?

Yes I totally agree that focus is very important. I have one more tip End Blog Posts With Questions. Make the question as specific as possible. “What do you think?” might not be inspiring enough to get someone to comment. Re-iterate the point or argument of the blog post in the question, to make it as direct and pointed as possible. This would enable more people to comment on your posts.

Very true Miguel. A bit off topic but very true.

I use to struggle with keeping up with my online business. That’s until I started to treat it like an offline business and put the proper time in. I now have a giant white board that I put my daily and weekly To Do list on and try my best to wipe off as many things as I can.

Sometimes I’m still hit with the lack of focus bug but I get up off the computer and take a break. Grab a drink and go sit in my yard and forget about the computer for 30 minutes. Usually I comeback in focus and hit the grind stone again.

It’s a lot of work to keep up with posting on the blogs, twitter, FB, submitting articles, making videos and everything else. That’s why very few people do it day in and day out while the rest of us have to post “I’m sorry about my lack of posting”.

Hi Justin, I actually do it “day in and day out”. Just not with this blog as I am not making any money from it. I like to focus on the revenue generating websites. :)

I think it’s important to review your goals regularly so that, like you say, you don’t just drift along in life. So what if you haven’t blogged in a while, as long as you are on track with your overall goals in life, that is what matters. Inspirational stuff!

Hi Mikael,

I’ve been searching all over the web and stumbled across your website, very nice by the way :) I just would like to know if you think having a positive mindset helps towards success online? I read this article on hubpages hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Retire-At-40 and it says you ‘have’ to have the right mindset. Is this true? Or can you be successful without all this PMA shananigans?

Richard.

Hi Richard,

That is a really great question and actually something that I find very hard to answer without writing a lengthy novel. The quick answer is “yes” you have to have a positive mindset in order to achieve anything.

The reason simply is that if you are negative about something, then you won’t do it and if you don’t do it, nothing will come from it. Being negative and fearful keeps people from even trying.

In my view the biggest difference is the “action” you take but I agree that without the “right mind”, no action can be taken.

Luckily there are books, audios, seminars etc. that will help you to reprogram your mind in a way that will have a huge impact on your behavior an therefore the remained of your life.

Please let me know if that makes sense to you.

Thanks,
Mikael

There’s this short story on focus which i think you will like.

A teacher who taught archery called up his students to the forest at the end of their lessons. He kept a wooden bird with a painted eye on a far away tree branch. The task was to hit the painted eye.

He asked his students to step up one by one and aim. As the first student lined up his aim, he was asked by the teacher whether he saw the trees, the student replied yes. He was told to step away. This pattern continued multiple times till one student came up. When he was asked whether he saw the trees, He said no.

The teacher asked him what do you see then . The student replied that he could only see the painted eye. The teacher became happy and praised his focus.

Hope ppl reading this understood it.

I agree with what Mikael has written. When u focus on what is truly important in life, it helps u identify your passions. Think about it, without focus nothing happens. When you focus on the outcome, what’s going right, or the gift of the moment, then your experience will be much more positive and new possibilities will open up to you. What you focus on creates what is real for you in your world.
