What is a Good CTR on Article Directory Articles’ Resource Box Links?

By Mikael | 2,028 views

As we have talked about earlier on, article marketing is a valuable way to not only generate a steady stream of direct and targeted traffic to your website but it is also a great way to build incoming one way backlinks to your site using anchor text that you can choose yourself.

If we’re to dig a little deeper into the idea of getting more direct traffic from the articles you distribute to article directories we have also talked about things like doing keyword research to make sure that people are searching for the topic of your article as you’ll not get any traffic from articles that are never found.

But even if your articles are found there are also things like a compelling headline and the right content and form of the article that plays an important part as to whether people will end up by clicking the links you have placed in your author resource box.

Monitor Your Article CTR Closely

In most article directories you’re able to see how many people have found and read your article and how many people have clicked the links you have in your resource box.

When you first post the article you will need to be patient and wait until you have gotten at least 100 views, which means that 100 people have found and read your article.

Then you will need to see how many people have actually clicked through to your website and as a rule of thumb I suggest that if the percentage is less than 10% then there will be room for improvement.

According to Article Bully you should be able to get awards of 40-60% CTR on your articles and I can imagine that would be possible if you have the right content and the right resource box.

Personally I have never managed to get anything about 45% CTR on an article but most of my articles are less and will produce about 20% or so in CTR. Could I improve them? Sure! Should I? Probably!

The way I see it is that you need to weigh the effort it’ll take to increase the CTR and the time it’ll take to write more articles. If I can get a 20% CTR on one article, then producing another article that would get the same amount of traffic and have the same CTR would produce the same amount of visitors in total.

Improve CTR to At Least 10%

I know that many article writers are only getting a few percent CTR on their articles and that is definitely as shame and something that should be taken seriously.

If you get a 2% CTR you will be able to increase your traffic (or save the time of writing another 4 article) by a factor 5, just by changing your article a little and probably correcting the resource box as well. If you’re short on time you might even benefit from just copying some of the expert writers’ resource boxes and just replacing the links to match your own site and keyword.

e-zine is the article directory i have the most trouble with for getting people to follow the resource box. I would say I get about 2-4% which is way under the number of 45%+ you were saying people should get. What kind of tips do you have for improving these rates?

Hi Nick, it is a combination of several thing. First of all you will need to write an article that people will want to read from start to finish. If the stop half way down they’ll never get to the author box.

Secondly you will need to craft the article so that people will want to have learned something from reading the article but so that they will still want to know more about the topic.

Finally you must word the author box in a way so that people are enticed to click through. Call it a soft ad if you like and then it is important to ask for the click (naturally).

I have been writing articles for about 3 months now and my average CTR is around 5%. Some of my article gets 40% CTR while other struggle to get 1%. I thinks it is very important to tweek and test you resource box when writing articles.

I recently started to write laser-targerted articles and the results are more than amazing.
