Since Mikael invited me to write a guest post on his blog, I really wanted to come up with something interesting. The easiest way to start is probably to tell you how I managed myself to make the impossible possible.
Let me share with you a bit of my life story with you on how I became wealthy enough to allow me to retire rich and early thanks to Internet.
It’s a Crazy World
The funny thing (or sad) is that when I look at today’s society, more often than not, most of the people in their 40s are no closer to their ability to retire based on their financial performance as they did when they were in their 20s.
The pattern is the same, they go to work, at the end of the month, they get paid, then they use up that money to pay their bills and start over the same cycle month after month for 10, 20, 30, 40 years or more.
At 40 years old, they look at their bank account and it looks just the same as when they were 20, except that they have lost 20 years of their life.
If you want to retire rich early, this is not the right way.
The Power of Choice
The ability the retire rich early doesn’t come from education but rather self-education. Education as we know it is not designed to help you retire rich early, it’s designed to condition you into becoming a part of the system, and that is to retire at age 65 after a wasted life.
As it is stated in its definition, insanity is interpreted by doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Well, in my case it didn’t take me long to realize that if I wanted a different life, I would have to do things differently.
My luck was to be born in the Internet generation; my choice was to take action on it.
There are defining moments like that in everybody’s life; the day you are offered an opportunity to do something great with your life, either for you or for others.
Then you are faced with a choice to make:
- Facing unknown dangers and risks in order to achieve your dreams.
- Playing safe and giving up on your dreams.
Unstoppable Mind
The reward I saw at the end of the road if I was to succeed far exceeded any risk or amount or work I would have to do, in fact there never was a choice to make for me, giving up on my dreams has never been an option for me.
I was 20 years old when I knew for sure that Internet would be the future, and that I had decided that I’ll be part of it too.
In order for me to retire at the age of 30 (which I did) I would have to accomplish within 10 years at least double than what other people do within 40 years. The first half would bring me to the same level as the people who normally retire, and the second half would allow me to do so being rich.
The math was very simple for me, here’s how I accomplished 80 years worth of work within 10 years.
- Most of the people are very slow at work, if I work twice as fast as other people for 10 years, I’ll have accomplished 20 years worth of work.
- Most of the people work a little bit only up to 8 hours per day. If I work twice as much each day, then within 10 years I’ll have accomplished another 40 years worth of work.
- Most of the people work in a very unproductive manner at work. If I work smarter and manage to double the ROI for my work, within the next 10 years I’ll have accomplished 80 years worth of work.
The Future is Now
What I found suddenly was that internet was the best possible vehicle to achieve my goals.
Firstly, I would be the boss, because I can’t become wealthy with a monthly salary, and my attitude doesn’t go well along with someone who orders me around, second:
- An online store is open 24/7, is never tired, doesn’t ask for salary, and doesn’t go on strike.
- An online store can reach customers worldwide and is no longer restricted to the small locality where I live.
- An online store fix and variable costs are microscopic compare to a traditional business.
Understanding this is only the beginning. If it is true that the internet is so vast that anybody can sell about anything, the only people who are really making money are the ones who rank at the top.
The only known ways to do so is through SEO/SEM.
My strength is my weakness too. I don’t trust much people to get the job done beside myself, so instead of hiring someone to do the SEO/SEM work for me, I made it clear that I had to learn all the ropes about it. Not the best ROI strategy, but knowledge acquired is something that I never consider a waste.
Through SEO/SEM, I managed to improve my online store performance according to my goal too:
- Increased of traffic and customers.
- More targeted traffic and customers.
- Higher conversion rate and global ROI.
In Conclusion
If part of becoming wealthy is to spend less, and earn more, then SEO/SEM has helped me a lot to achieve so. Knowing how to acquire top rankings in the search engines will help you save $10,000’s each month compare to using PPC, while SEM will teach you how to increase your conversion rate and double (if not more) your net profit.
If you want to become wealthy, you have to use your money and time where it can help you make even more money while saving more time altogether.

Fabulous guest post Nicolas. I love what you said at the beginning — how people look at their bank account when they are 20, and when they are 40, and it is the almost the exact same. I, for one, do not want to live like that.

It is a very inspiring post Nicolas. I like you’re idea of being more effective and productive in the same time. Because what it all comes down to is the amount of productive work that is put into the task.
Getting a certain result might take 5000 productive hours but if you’re very unproductive and only get one productive hours done per day (which is the case for many people), then it’ll take you forever. If on the other hand you can manage to work effectively for 10 hours per day (I’m not even sure I could do that) it would only take you 1.5 years to get the result.
And that is WITHOUT talking about leverage. If you can leverage other peoples time you can get the job done VERY quickly. Personally I am a big fan of “leverage”

@ Gooroo. Thanks, it’s sad but it’s true, if by the end of the month, after paying all your bills, you don’t have money left, you may actually be even more broke than when you were teenager with you part-time job pocket money…
Building your wealth should be measured in how long could you still live maintaining the same living standard as you do now, but without going to work.
Keep track of your progress and always seek improvement, your calculations may start to be measured in days, then weeks, then months, when you reach the stage of years, then you can already be very proud of yourself!
@ Mikael. We both have a network marketing background, so I guess leverage is no stranger to us! Like we say, I’d rather get $1 from the efforts of 100 people rather than getting $100 from my own.

Inspiring post Nicolas. Thanks. I also like the concept of achieving much more than others but in the same amount of time and by working less and make money work for you instead of working for money. Auto-pilot income is one of the great benefits an internet business can provide.
Many people work all their lives and those who manage to set aside some interesting savings start to enjoy their lives when they get old. Frankly I don’t like this idea at all.

Hi Jean,
You indeed raise an important point here: Who wants to enjoy life at 65?
Honestly when was the last time you really wanted to do or have something?
You have a family you want to spend time with them, but by the time you are 65, your small children are already 40 years old and have children already on their own…
Like most guys I wanted a sport car when I was 20 years old (well at least I managed to get it, even if it wasn’t the best financial decision I made), who in his 30′s doesn’t want to travel with his loved one and enjoy life or things like that?
Well by the time you are 65 and now have the time and maybe the money too, it’s already too late. Needs and desire change, I was 8 when I wanted a Transformer toy. Today I could buy them all many times over, but I’m no longer 8 and no longer interested in that.
Remember that you only have just so many 10 years in your life so use them wisely!

Hi Nicolas,
Thanks for your response. What you’re saying is so true. At a certain point in our lives, we want to realize some dreams like having more time for family, working less, enjoy life because life is really too short.
But most of us can’t do that due to the daily 9-5 rat race. Most people are consumed by this hectic lifestyle. They work and focus on career to achieve more progress but in the end, as time passes by, they start to enjoy what they achieved by their sixties. How you view to enjoy life in your 30′s is different from your 60′s. When you are still young, your needs, desires and aspirations are not the same as when you’re older like you said.
People say don’t waste time, in fact if you look at it right, it’s not time that you’re wasting but hours, minutes and seconds of your limited life. Time is infinite. So from a life perspective, it’s important to use our time wisely and make the most out of it.
I believe an Internet business is one of the greatest ways to achieve freedom in life and not getting stuck to a working schedule and routine. I think there is a lot more to life than working and working till retirement at 60-65. Many people don’t realize that or to those who do, they can’t do anything much about it. The concept of retiring early is definitely something most people would want but can’t.

I don’t believe in the can’t concept. The only thing that prevents people from doing something is themselves.
I know a lot of people, including myself who went from so called impossible situation for many, yet still wanted to make a difference and did it against all odds.
This can be seen from steps as small as a Taxi driver I met in Thailand. He was too poor to go to school and yet he could speak english, how was that possible?
He spend his time trying to talk to as many foreigners as possible, self-teach himself how to read english from sign boards and others, and as practices goes on, he ended up being able to speak better english than some graduate students…
People like that are the people I really deeply respect.

I have to support Nicolas here.
There are thousands of stories of people that came from LESS than nothing and still made it big. Look at people like Mother Theresa (a poor nun) – she is know all over the world. Same thing with someone like Ghandi.
And if old people say that “it can’t be done”, then tell them the story of Colonel Sanders that started KFC at the age of 65 (after getting rejected by banks more than ONE THOUSAND times).
Everything is possible if it becomes a MUST for you

Hey Nicolas and Mikael, I agree to what you’re saying. I think the same too. Talking about the retiring early, in fact what I meant by “cant” is mostly due to the fact that many people procrastinate and never take any action to make a difference in their lives for instance by getting more freedom in life. You can’t just get this sort of life, you need to take action and work for it initially.
Many people have dreams of retiring early but they can’t because they didn’t take any action out of procrastination or fear. They still prefer having a daily job because it brings them financial security. And they don’t want to take risks in life to achieve more than what they already have.
Quoting “The only thing that prevents people from doing something is themselves.” – yep I can’t agree more Nicolas.
We are masters of our own destiny and future

Hi Nicolas and Mikael,
Retiring at 30 which mean a 10 year of hard work and make the job that others would do in 80 years, seems unbelievable. That means so much determination and wise priorities.
From the moment I found out that you retired at 30 and 23 you already made big money. I was asking myself how did you learn all this stuff so fast.
Today I can find tons of information about internet, but when you started everything was new there was less information I guess. Did you have an idol from whom you learned? If you did this by yourself, that is unusual I would say.
Thanks!

Hi Ion,
Information in general has always been available, it’s up to each one of us to go and find it out.
Like the saying, what is hard is not to find a master but to become a disciple…
When it comes to business, I went to libraries, learn all I could about starting my own business, I went to take some course in my local Chamber of Commerce and Industry, I did all what the people who don’t succeed where too lazy to do.
All the countries in the world have public libraries… there’s an unlimited source of knowledge there available to whoever wants to learn.
When I started I didn’t knew much, but when I encountered something I didn’t knew about, rather than giving up saying I don’t know what this is all about; I went to search find out more and learn about it… at each step I became more experienced and knowledgeable.
Was it easy? No, Was it worth it? Oh YES!

Hi Nicolas, I already heard about that story but can you tell me how you started or even a little hint of your secrets to riches. I just want to retire at my late 20′s so that I can cherish the remaining time for my family. Hope you will say such
