How to Improve Search Engine Ranking with a Plan

If you have a website and you want to make money with it then you will need to attract some traffic to the site in one way or another. There are literally thousands of different ways that you can get traffic to your website but from an overall perspective there are four different ways as I see it:

Paid Traffic

You can pay for traffic which is by far the fastest way to get visitors to your site. There are a lot of other webmasters that would love to sell you a part of their traffic and for that traffic you’ll give them money. Simple and effective!

There are naturally a lot of aspects of buying traffic and many ways in which it can be done but it is basically exchanging visitors for money.

Social Traffic

Next you have the latest trend which is Social traffic. Again this traffic can come from at huge list of different web 2.0 sources but all in all it is about relationships and interaction. Be it Twitter, Digg or StumbleUpon it can all bring you a lot of traffic and it is free but not necessarily easy to get.

List Traffic

Then you also have traffic that comes from your own email list. Now this isn’t really a source of traffic that you can start out using because when you start you don’t have a list and if you want to use other peoples lists you’ll normally have to pay which makes it part of the “paid traffic” that I mentioned above. But when your business is up and running your list of subscribers can be a great assets when it comes to driving traffic to your site (or other peoples sites as well).

Search Engine Traffic

Finally there is my personal favorite and that is the traffic that comes from the search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Just like the social traffic it is absolutely free and I really like free stuff. But just as getting tons of Social traffic isn’t easy then getting tons of search engine traffic isn’t easy either. To get more search engine traffic you will need to get better rankings for your keywords and that is why I call this post how to improve search engine traffic with a plan. Because a plan is needed and over the coming days I’ll be giving you some detailed steps that you can follow to start improving your ranking.

I am not claiming to be any kind of SEO guru or expert like Dan Thies, Leslie Rohde or Aaron Wall but I do know something about getting decent rankings in the search engines and that is what I would like to share with you.

One of the most important aspects of getting good rankings for your specific keywords is to get incoming links to your site. It sounds easy and if you know how to do it then it really isn’t that difficult but it requires time and effort and that is why I find that a plan works best if you want fast results.

So in the coming posts I’ll share with you some of my favorite ways to get incoming links and I’ll end up by tying it all together into a plan that you can follow to achieve your own top search engine ranking.
