Welcome to the site. It is always a pleasure to see new faces. Testing is so vital and yet so few people are actually doing it. Increasing the CTR by 1% can be a huge increase. Putting it somewhere at the bottom of the sidebar will not earn you much at all. Another tip is to try an blend the ad with the surroundings but not too much as then you lose it all together.
