Getting from point A to point B on the internet highway and the road to success usually does not take the shortest path. There are so many distractions.

When you are a one person show as most of us are, there are so many things to do to become an all around success. However it is all part of the process.

How many emails do we get every day with an offer for a product and then an opportunity to be an affiliate for it? How often do we get thrown off by one of these offers and the chance to make 40-50 or more per sale?

It is easy to become distracted. Building up a network of followers can become time consuming, too.

You have to really enjoy what you do to stay with this. However we choose to accept the challenge, and even though we might take the scenic route and the detours, several of us do get to our destination.

You sound just like an email I received :) ..."it happened overnight...." *LOL*

I've never heard of anyone that didn't get sidetracked doing online marketing and it think it is part of the process. The only thing that matters is that you keep doing something until you finally learn not to get (as) sidetracked. Whether that will take a short time or a long time will be individual. For me it seems like it has taken a long time :)

Hi Mikael,

I think one of the most common reason why people get sidetracked is because they (or we) are always seeking for the easiest way to make money as fast as possible.

When someone find something good, they start to prepare themselves, realize that they need a 1 year plan... and then boom! They receive an email telling about how someone just like them without experience found a method incredibly easy to get money almost overnight "even if you don't have experience"...

Guess what happened to the 1 year plan...

After purchasing that new great plan, they realize that it's not that great or maybe it is, but then again to make it work better, they should do a 1 year plan along side, etc...

In the end, 1 year passed by and they still haven't made up their mind.

It doesn't matter what you are involved with, nothing happen until you take action.

I feel your pain Matt. I've been there myself (and I still am at times).

The best solution for me has been to remove all the distractions (subscriptions) + creating a daily plan for what I MUST do before I can "play around".

This is my biggest problem Mikael! I start a project and get sidetracked incredibly easily because I've read other reports about what I'm NOT doing. So I lose interest in my current project and start building ideas for the next one.
I've spoken with a friend recently and he has given me EXACTLY the same pep talk. Pick one and focus on it solely. It's got to be the way otherwise everything ends up piecemeal.

I am a great believer in action. You can't let perfect come in the way of action. You gotta try and see how far it takes you. And then think through it. Here is a related thought from Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert).

Oh that really made me laugh, your "Heck if you still can’t decide then let me do it for you." I must have a strange sense of humour! It's so true though - within reason it doesn't matter what you pick as long as you do something. You could research forever and still not know whether it'll work until you try. It's also easy to get sidetracked when you read about how so and so made loads of money doing this one thing, so I think your advice about doing nothing else for 12 months and not even reading about it is so good. You're always going to get new ideas in this game but you could end up with loads of websites making you nothing if you don't focus on one. There are so many things to try and test and tweak that it takes 12 months anyway (unless you work 24 hours a day!).

Cheers, Chloe
