Thats true. Think and think will take you nowhere, just start doing it.

I too fall into the "thinking" trap where I just spin ideas all day. It can be fun coming up with new ideas or ways of doing things. It can also be a way to procrastinate when I don't really want to do what I am scheduled to do that day.

Yes, I am guilty of many of the things that you list there. As you say, it is very easy to end up in a kind of inert state where you keep thinking about doing stuff but never get around to it. I think part of the reason this occurs is through habit. And habits reinforce themselves. Even if they are bad for you, you repeat the behavior because it gives you a kind of security.

That's why I find it really helps to just have a decent long break from the computer every now and then. I find that whenever I do this I do more and think less. And this isn't just because I've become more energized as a result fo the refreshing break. It's also because the habit of thinking too much has been broken - at least for a while.

Very true Sanjeev.

I haven't read David Allen's book but it is on my wish list with Amazon. Thanks for recommending it.

I agree that it's important to keep moving forward, action being MUCH better than inaction.

The problem comes when the desire to keep moving forward stops you from taking a minute to determine in which DIRECTION to move!

If you have not already read it, I would highly recommend David Allen's book "Getting things done", it has certainly helped me to determine what my priorities are at any given point.

Hi Matt,

Seems like we're very similar on that point. The problem is that more hours will not help if we spend it on more thoughts. Action, action, action is the name of the game we need to play to win.

How utterly right you are Mikael. I'm so guilty of this. I sit sometimes with my laptop, knowing EXACTLY what I need to do and end up thinking about other things. When my battery starts to fail I think "great, a successful evening" when in fact I've done pretty much nothing.

If only there were more hours in the day...

Hi Mikael,

You were right, many entrepreneurs just have bag full of ideas and when it comes to implementation they take a backseat.

Sometimes I also plan to do something new to my blog and get lots of information, but then I forget it completely. To get a escape from this I take the use of motivational quotes. They help a lot in getting you moving on.

Thanks for this encouraging post.

Hi Frank,

Well I see your point and you are naturally right. However since it is impossible to do anything without using your brain (just like you can't work without breathing) I didn't feel that it was worth mentioning. :)

Anyway the point was that we all need to be true to ourselves and realize how much (or how little) we actually work.
