Warning: Stay Away From Minisite911 – He’s a Scam

UPDATE: He finally sent me what I had ordered and everything was Awesome. If you don’t mind the wait (and don’t mind sending him a few emails to see how things are going, he will definitely deliver HIGH quality work at a FAR too cheap price.

I know that this is a powerful headline but I needed to get your attention. I am not a person that would normally do this kind of thing because I feel that people can make mistakes and should be able to correct their mistakes. But let me give you the story and you can see for yourself whether or not I am wrongly accusing Oki Trice of Minisite911.com of being a fraud.

April 14: I opted in for the free samples to see whether he was delivering anything of value (which he was). I was comforted by this but still needed to make up my mind about what I wanted him to do for me.

April 28: I went to his site because I found that his testimonials and portfolio looked quite impressive and the price was very reasonable. I decided to order the largest package he has for $167. The homepage said that he was on a heavy workload and that you could experience 6-7 days response time. That was fine by me because I was looking forward to getting some great work done and wasn’t in a rush.

I transferred the $167 from my PayPal account as he only accepts upfront payments. I guess that was a bit stupid of me but I thought that someone with such a nice looking site were honest.

And then I waited…

May 1: I decided that it was time to make sure that he had gotten my requirements and understood what I was trying to have him accomplish. I got zero response back.

May 6: I sent him another email and also submitted the same message through his web form (just in case) but still no response.

May 11: I wrote him an email telling him that I was feeling like I were being scammed and that I would really like for him to just send me a reply so that I knew he was actually there.

And today we’re at May 23 and I still haven’t heard a single word from him. In my world that is being a fraud and a scammer. It is not so much the money (even though I would like to have them back) but rather that I am definitely not the first one he is ripping off but with this post I am hoping that he is going to be one of the last.

Sorry to hear of your ordeal, Mikael. I cannot stand silence and you were clearly very patient with this guy. And kudos to you for keeping such detailed records; that makes it harder for anyone to dispute your side of the story.

Thank you Mark. In the meantime I’ve learned that I can try to do a charge back with Paypal so I am going to try that out if possible.

Really apologize for missing to reply your emails, man. I’m just being so swamped, that’s very hard for me to keep up with all of emails and orders.. I’m receiving hundreds of emails daily, and at least 3-4 orders a day, not to mention those who come back again for minor revision now and then, making it hard for me to decide whose to server frist.
Anyways, I do really apologize for not replying your emails. I know, at least replying your email saying couple of words would make you feel better, but I just miss to do that.
So, I see that you’re filling a dispute, and I perfectly understand the situation, I’d probably do the same if I were you.
Just if you may, would you like to give me second chance, and I’ll put your project on top of everything, and you should see the draft by tomorrow, or Tuesday the latest. Let me know what you think, man.
If you still like the refund, as I said, I’d perfectly understand, and I’ll release the money shortly. However, I’d prefer to complete what we have started.

I think your top one prority should be something simple: Update the text at http://www.minisite911.com to read something like “Turnaround time about 3 weeks” or so, maybe add a autoreply to your email saying “Sorry I’m swamped – I’ll get back to you as soon as possible, but there might be a delay”..
Some people might look elsewhere, but these people would be even more unhappy about the waiting if they were not warned. I guess you could even atract some people by showing of how popular your service is..
– You could even take advantage of this be quickly adding a sing-up form where potential clients could be informed as soon as you get more time on your hands..

Mikael, thanks for the Post on 911, I am encountering the same problem with not only him but minifrogsite as well. Has Oki given you a samle of what you are looking for? I need help with my project so if you know of anyone you can refer me to I would be gratefull.

Hi Charles, yes Oki finally delivered what I had ordered and it was great stuff. I’m actually going to change part of this post as he is definitely not a scam but rather a very busy unstructured and poorly communicating designer :)

I have purchased 2 orders with Oki. They have both come back to me looking better than what I expected. He isn’t a scammer, he just doesn’t have everything in order I guess. The first site I ordered took 2 weeks, the second took 3. He is a new designer to the Minisite Design world and one of the best out there. Hopefully the price increase in July will weed out some of the orders so I can order more sites from him. I don’t mind paying twice as much for something I could get twice as fast.

Hi Les, yes there is no doubt that he is very talented. When he finally replied we got everything worked out and things fell into place.

I’ve made an update to this post to make people aware of this.

I agree that it he raised his prices he would probably be able to handle the workload (which he can’t right now) and make far more money for himself.

Unfortunately, it seems like I’m in this same boat now. I guess it’s a little comforting to know that I’ll get my minisite from Oki… eventually. Maybe I’ll have to put up my own website that is critical of his ‘email response time’ in order to get anything from him. (hopefully it won’t come to that) sigh.. I guess I’ll remain patient for now. He does seem to do good work. It’s not even the waiting that bothers me. I’m not in a huge rush. It’s just the lack of a response.

Update: Things have NOT gone well with Oki Trice. If I don’t hear from him today I will post the details here.

Stuck in the same boat… got 2 great-looking drafts, but haven’t had any responses in 5 days… despite a time-sensitive need for the graphics. Any suggestions on how to get a response from Oki? skype? (Always shows him as offline…)

Oki, will complete your project…U have to give him a time line going into the project…he is not a scam, just overwhelmed…Just keep e-mailing him the same e-mail..Maybe put “Emergency” in subject line and explain your time-line expectation to him…hope this helps:-)

I agree with Charles. I truly is a pain that his communication skills are that bad and that he still hasn’t learned from it. It is definitely costing him a lot of customers.

UPDATE: Oki came through!!!

At the 11th hour, Oki got me all the graphics I needed, and even included some modifications I’d requested at no additional charge. They look AMAZING. I”m very happy with the quality, and will work with Oki again – but will be sure to give him LOTS of lead time.

@Bola, great to hear that you got what you wanted. He really does great work but ought to work on his communication skills :)

I ordered a minisite from Oki a week ago, and haven’t receive a response from my follow up email, so I was a little worried. I decided to check out some reviews of minisite911 and came across your site. The update you have and the numerous minisite911 clients’ posts have taken that worry away, so thank you very much. It’s reassuring to know that Minisite911 will eventually get the job done and make the site look incredible.

At least one other positive has come from this experience…

I now know that I will be employing the BEST full-time customer service reps I can find!

He took my (money 247$) and then vanished with no replies to email or facebook messages, no work done. Scammer? I just want my money back.

I’m running into the same problem. The first project went fine, work was great…now my new project is several days late, no response to emails…I’m getting ticked off. I’m 24 hours away from filing a dispute.
