Why Using the Same Article with Multiple Article Directories is Okay

By Mikael | 593 views

So now you know a little more about using articles to get better search engine rankings and you have hopefully paid attention to the additional benefits that article marketing can provide for you in terms of traffic and visitors that are more likely to convert.

Next I want to briefly talk about a concept that I believe some online marketers are wrong about and why I think that is. If you have read a little about article marketing on other blogs and websites you have possibly read that you should never post the same article in multiple article directories because there is this scary thing called duplicate content (I’m trying to be sarcastic here).

First of all duplicate content is not something that you should worry about as long as we are talking about content that is not located on your website. When we’re talking about articles that you distribute to other sites (without placing them on your own site) there is no issue with duplicate content that can affect you.

What duplicate content basically means is that Google and the other search engines will either not index articles that they already have in their index or they will place it in what is called the supplemental index. The result is that the content will not show up in the search results when people search for it.

So will this happen if you submit your new article to 10 different article directory sites?

Yes some of them will probably not get indexed and will not provide you with the backlink that you originally wanted but who cares? You can be sure that at least one of the sites will be indexed and provide you with the link and most often it is the site with the highest authority (which is only to your benefit). But most of the time you will also find that some of the other sites will be indexed as well and that your article will actually appear in several places at the same time and provide you with several backlinks.

So do I recommend that you submit the same article to several article directories?

Absolutely!!

Even if you are out of luck and only a single site will have your article indexed and provide the backlink you will still be able to get traffic from the remaining directories and as I told you yesterday that can be great traffic! What I recommend is that you see your article as an ad just like the ones that companies places in magazines and news papers. Have you ever seen the same ad in two different magazines? I’m sure you have. So why shouldn’t you do the same with your articles? They are your ads and will provide you with visitors that will become your customers.

So don’t be afraid of duplicate content on other sites and do worry about submitting the exact same article to several article directories. It’ll only help you get more traffic.

To Your Success,
Mikael

Interesting post. In fact i was just thinking about this other day and questioning my self as to how will this effect me if the article is not located on my website. I guess i was right, it does not!

I never thought about it this way. I was going to red flag this article until you said duplicating contents are okay as long as you are not duplicating an article from your site.

Even if the multiple copies do not get indexed, it is a win-win situation to get more traffic. Thumbs up for great article Mikael!

Yes! Another one who isn’t afraid of duplicate content. :)

But if anyone is still unsure, I recommend they spin their article. If done appropriately, this should create enough difference among the copies.

You should at least make some modifications. Unique content is far better than duplicate content.

Not to mention those huge and reputable article content will surely not accept such copied content.

Hi Renee and welcome to the blog. Surely unique content will have a higher rate of indexing but it will also require more time and effort on your part. And it is not necessary to do because you’ll still get both links and visitors for identical articles.

As for the acceptance I have a ton of proof that even the largest of the article directories really don’t care about you submitting the same articles to multiple directories. They’ll still get accepted. The only “issue” I have ever had was that EA didn’t like that I used different pen names for the same article across different directories. Once I changed that the article was instantly accepted.

So yes you can change articles but you don’t need to and even with identical articles you can still have them accepted across most article directories. So anyone trying to tell you something different is lying to you ;)

@Mark, I have sites made up of only reused content that makes me hundreds of dollars a month. It is just a matter of doing it right :) So no I’m not afraid of duplicate content.

This is a good explanation.

I think the best way to approach it is to submit your article to the highest page rank directory first, then wait a few days before submitting to others.

As you say, Google may index all of them, but it’s no tragedy if it doesn’t. The more directories your article is at, the more people will read it. And a certain percentage of them will click through to your site.

One submission (or hopefully more) is for SEO. The remainder are just for clicks.

Hi Mikael,

This is perhaps the best reason why we can use same articles on multiple directories. I have been working some time on the internet but this fact never occurred to me. BUT, I wonder why the article directories don’t get penalized by having same articles. Don’t they get penalized for that?
Like if Ezine and Articlebase had same articles, Why don’t they get penalized?

I really want to know this, if you can help me understand this, please do.

Thanks again

@Ravi, first of all duplicate content will not get you “penalized” but it will merely leave that page out of the search engine index.

The reason (I believe) that the larger sites will still have the context indexed is that they are authority sites. If the site with the article has enough authority is have to be good content (in the SE’s point of view).

You’ll see the same thing when big news websites use articles from Reuters etc.

I can’t give you an explanation that is better because only the search engines know what they’re doing but to be quite honest I don’t really care because all that matters is that one or more articles gets indexed and provides a backlink.

Interesting post, great views. I want to get started article marketing, but I don’t what to do, after hearing from you, I think I know what to do, pick top 10 article directories and sumbit a article to them at the same time, at least it will be index in one, great idea!
clarky´s last blog ..Where To Get Started Your First Blog

Sorry guy…but for an extra hour or so work with a good spinner you will have loads of backlinks which is the entire point of writing articles in the first place isn’t it..? To take all that time writing a good article and then just send it to a dozen directories unchanged makes no sense at all. You are right though about the fact that duplicate content issues people are always talking about means the content on your own site.

Hi Loki,

The name is Mikael ;) and welcome to the blog.

I fully agree with you that using some sort of spinner is even better but that is not the point here. The point is that people are afraid of submitting the same article to multiple places because they have heard something about duplicate content issues and all I am saying is that they shouldn’t be.

If they only have this one article then they should still submit it several places as it WILL benefit them more.

Usually what I do is rewrite one of the paragraphs each time I submit to a different article. Than I take the article I just changed on paragraph on and put that on a new directory and rewrite another paragraph.

I continue on like that rewriting a new paragraph each time, so everything is slightly different. It seems to have panned out well for me.

Hey, I try to submit different articles to different directories. I also spin my articles to avoid duplication – how necessary this is I dont know. One thing I do know is that by submitting 10 or so article to Ezine Articles, you can dramatically boost your search engine results. Ive seen it time and time again.
